Hundreds Without Power In McHenry County, Across Chicago Area
As of 10:30 a.m., a total of 7,035 ComEd customers in Illinois are without power, inc luring 2,241 in McHenry County.
Some Chicago-area families are in the dark this Thanksgiving Eve — a day when many will be relying on their stovetops and ovens to start prepping dishes for their holiday feast.
As of 10:30 a.m., a total of 7,035 ComEd customers in Illinois are without power. In the Chicago area, this includes:
- 2,461 households or businesses in Cook County
- 2,241 in McHenry County
- 1,109 in Will County
- 738 in Lake County
- 182 in DuPage County
High wind gusts are likely contributing to the power outages. Patch.com has reached out to ComEd officials for more information regarding the outages — and when power could be restored — but has not yet heard back.

As of 10:30 a.m., wind gusts between 45 to 60 mph have been recorded in the Chicago area. According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, here is a look at the peak wind gusts so far:
- Midway Airport: 60 mph
- Rockford Airport: 53 mph
- West Chicago: 49 mph
- Wheeling: 49 mph
- Chicago: 48 mph
High winds are in the forecast through the day on Thanksgiving Eve.

"Gusts will increase after daybreak. Take care if traveling on [north/south] roads," the weather service advised. A wind advisory remains in effect for the Chicago area through 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Wind-whipped snow showers and flurries are also possible on Wednesday, and the high for the day is 37 degrees. However, wind chills will be around 15 to 20 degrees, according to the weather service.
Thanksgiving Day on Thursday will not be quite as windy, but still "blustery and cold," the weather service said.
