MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — Randy Freese, a long-time McHenry County prosecutor, will take the reins as the county's new state's attorney following Tuesday's election and is the first woman to hold the seat in the county's history.

Freese, a Republican, ran unopposed for the seat after state's attorney Patrick Kenneally dropped out of the race earlier this year, according to Shaw Local News Network.

I look forward to continuing to ensure victims of crime are heard and that county government be represented to the best of my abilities,” Freese said.

Kenneally said Freese is ready to take over.

“Randi has been in the office for 15 years [and] done basically every legal position there is to do. She has been the No. 2 in the office for almost three years working side by side with me. She’s ready,” Kenneally told Shaw Local News Network.
