 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announced that Ricardo J. Carreno, Jr., 38, of Woodstock, Illinois, was sentenced on July 21, 2021, to eight years total in the Illinois Department of Corrections by the Honorable Judge Coppedge after being found guilty at trial for the offenses of Aggravated Battery and Violation Of An Order Of Protection.

These charges stem from an incident that occurred on June 14, 2020 at the Shell gas station located in downtown Woodstock. The victim pulled into the gas station in order to check the air in his tires.  While he was doing so, the defendant ran up to him and struck him in the head with a baseball bat. The victim defended himself but in the process was stabbed in the shoulder area by the defendant with a knife. Also present during this altercation was the ex-wife of the defendant. The ex-wife had a valid Order of Protection against the defendant which prohibited him from having contact with her.

Carreno was sentenced to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and a concurrent sentence of two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on the felony offense of Violation of an Order of Protection.

This case was investigated by members of the Woodstock City Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Robert Schuman and Matthew Brodersen of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
