TLC Hosts Learning Circle Aug. 6
Event is a gathering opportunity for women farmers and farmland owners

Women who own or manage farmland or who have an interest in becoming a farmer are invited to a Learning Circle hosted by The Land Conservancy of McHenry County (TLC). The Learning Circle will be held Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at Adama Farm, 18317 Garden Valley Rd. in Marengo. Participants can register at ConserveMC.org/women-farmland-owners/ or email chodge@conservemc.org. The event is $5 per person. Morning refreshments and lunch are included. The deadline to register is Monday, Aug. 4.
This Learning Circle will focus on topics such as: no-till market gardening, mid-scale farm equipment and infrastructure, the World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) program and more. Participants will get a chance to pick their own produce and enjoy the grounds of the former Cherry Lane Farm, now home to woman-owned Adama Farm, a no-till regenerative fruit, vegetable and flower farm.
Nearly half of all farmland in Illinois is owned or co-owned by women, and many women manage farmland on their own. The event is open to women with all levels of experience, whether they are actively managing a farm, or they’ve recently inherited a farm and are learning about how to run a sustainable operation. The Learning Circle will provide women the opportunity to meet other landowners, share their farm successes and challenges, discuss goals for their land, and get advice and technical assistance.
