Darien Marijuana Shop Delays Opening
The owner says the start date hinges on a state inspection.
DARIEN, IL – High Haven, a marijuana dispensary, is set to open by the end of August, a couple of months later than originally planned.
In an email to Patch on Monday, Mahjabeen Sulemanjee-Bortocek, the shop's owner, said she was waiting on the state to finalize the date for its inspection.
As of now, she said, the inspector is planning to come next Monday. If everything goes well, the store will hold a "soft opening" and then hold a grand opening on Sept. 1 or Sept. 2, she said.

In February, when city officials announced the planned store, it was set to open in late spring. Later, the store said it would hold its soft opening the week of July 12, with a grand opening a month later.
The news of the store upset many residents, who said it would be too close to Concord Elementary School, which is southwest of the shopping center. But others have noted that the bar and a liquor store are already in the center.
