Here's What Businesses Darien Residents Want: Official

DARIEN, IL — Darien Alderman Eric Gustafson said this week he recently asked residents on the Nextdoor social media website about what businesses they would like to see in town.

"There was a huge response from that," Gustafson said at a City Council meeting. "I have had quite a few communications with some of the prospective leads and businesses that residents would like to see."

He said he passed the list of businesses to Mid-America Real Estate, which is the current broker for Chestnut Court shopping center on the southeast corner of Lemont Road and 75th Street. Chestnut Court has a lot of vacancies, officials said.

Here's what Gustafson said residents want:

• Trader Joe's grocery store (the largest response among respondents)
• Marijuana store
• Ace Hardware
• Italian deli
• Butcher shop
• Mom-and-pop sit-down restaurant
• Bakery
• Bagel shop
• Toy store
• Sub shop
• Salon Suites
• Wine bar
• Greek restaurant
