DARIEN, IL – Hinsdale South High School students are twice as likely as their Hinsdale Central counterparts to experience scheduling conflicts when registering for their preferred classes, the latest data show.

South reported 344 scheduling conflicts for students a year ago, compared with 337 at Central, according to a report from Hinsdale High School District 86.

Given that Central's enrollment is nearly double South's, the latest numbers show South students are far more likely to suffer from scheduling conflicts.

This continues the historic trend of South students getting the short end of the stick because of the school's lower enrollment.

South haslong offered a smaller selection of courses, with some being canceled because of low demand.

Last spring, administrators presented statistics showing that they had largely wiped out the longstanding disparity.

But they later acknowledged that the portrayal was wrong. This was after the school board's president, Catherine Greenspon, said administrators manipulated the data.

Officials pledged to take a new look at the numbers, perhaps hiring a consultant.

At 6 p.m. Tuesday at the district's office, the board's Availability and Opportunities Committee plans to look at the scheduling conflict statistics.

According to the agenda, Keith Bockwoldt, the district's chief information officer, will present the numbers.

Patch left a message for comment Monday with district officials.
