Business Roundup: Japanese Company May Bid for Beam
Deerfield based Beam also makes acquisition to bolster Irish whiskey business.

A Japanese company, spirit maker Suntory Holdings, Ltd., is considering a bid to purchase Deerfield based Bean, Inc., the distiller of Jim Beam, Makers’ Mark, Canadian Club and other brands, according to an article on Bloomberg Monday.
Suntory has considered acquiring Beam before but a move at this time appears less likely because of the current value of the Deerfield based company’s stock, which has increased 17 percent this year, according to Bloomberg.

Beam is thinking about purchases itself. It just acquired 2 Gingers, adding the brand to its Irish whiskey division, according to a story Monday in Whiskey Magazine. Kieran Folliard, 2 Gingers founder and an Irish American entrepreneur, will become Beam’s Chief Irish Whiskey Ambassador.
“2 GINGERS’ history combined with Beam’s resources as the second largest spirits company in the U.S. can create brand recognition that would take a small company like ours decades longer to achieve on its own,” Folliard said in the Whiskey Magazine story. “I am excited to partner with Beam to grow 2 Gingers and the entire Beam Irish whiskey portfolio across the U.S.”
