Canine Helps Officers Locate 4 Juveniles Who Crashed Stolen Car, Fled From Police In Deerfield

A police canine helped locate four juvenile suspects, one of which was hiding in a shed, after they crashed a stolen vehicle and fled on foot in Deerfield, authorities said.

The Northbrook Police Department said in a statement to Lake and McHenry County Scanner that they were made aware of a stolen vehicle in their town on Friday.

Officers received a notification of a confirmed stolen vehicle by Flock Safety’s license plate reader system, which is installed in different areas in Northbrook.

The vehicle fled from police in Northbrook and efforts to pursue the vehicle were terminated, the statement said.

The vehicle entered Deerfield and crashed at the intersection of Deerfield Road and Wilmot Road around 3 p.m. Friday.

A witness told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the car took down a light pole in the crash.

Police said all subjects fled from the stolen vehicle.

The Lake Forest Police Department said Officer Michael Hughes and Canine Chase were sent to assist multiple police departments in the search.

Chase was able to track one of the offenders over a block through backyards and fences.

Chase alerted Officer Hughes to the offender’s location, which was inside a shed.

Northbrook police said all four suspects, who are juveniles, were located and arrested.

The four of them are all facing charges in connection with the incident.
