Construction Crew Strikes Gas Line In Deerfield: Police

DEERFIELD, IL — A construction crew accidentally struck a gas line Monday afternoon near the 1300 block of Hazel Avenue and Hemlock Street. The Deerfield fire and police departments are on the scene.

Deerfield police sent out a road closure alert at around 12:25 p.m. on social media regarding the incident. They said roadway closures are in effect for the public's safety and motorists should avoid the area, while using alternative routes.

Later in the day, police said Nicor is on scene to repair the gas line and has rendered the area safe. Hazel will be blocked off at Hemlock (both directions) while maintenance is occurring. Emergency personnel will remain in the area until it clears.
