DHS Class of '14 Beats Class of '13 in Summer League Baseball

The Northern Lights League is for college-age players who play competitive ball.

Deerfield baseball is in a summer league called “the northern lights “ a league for college-age kids who play competitive ball , and the league now has players from age 18 to 30 plus 3 Deerfield teams: the Class of 2012, class of 2013 and class of 2014. Other team are Niles, Wilmette and Northbrook.

The championship game was Deerfield class of 2014 vs Deerfield class of 2013. Before the championship game , Deerfield class of ‘14 beat Deerfield class of ‘12 in a 4-3 thriller.

Class of ‘14 , had pitcher Mac levin (DHS varsity ace) on the hill. Jason Shaltiel, DHS varsity second baseman who is also this team’s player coach, singled In the 7th, with the score tied 3-3 . Jason stole second and third and scored on a walk off single by Levin.

In the championship game, Addison Jacoby, (also DHS varsity pitcher ), threw a complete game. Mark Blakey and Xander Horowitz, (DHS class of ‘13 pitchers), threw for team Deerfield class of ‘13.

Class of ‘14 played long ball all night. Nick Korompilas and Jake Gozdicki hit home runs early, and Jason Shaltiel launched a monster two-run homer late in the game for the 8-6 win.

Class of ‘14, pictured below, takes down the first place hardware at Jewett Park, on July 28th. Congrats to player coach Shaltiel and class of 2014 gang on the impressive victories.
