New Deerfield High Principal To Be Announced At District Board Meeting

Current Principal Kathryn Anderson will become chief human resources officer/deputy superintendent for District 113 at end of school year.

DEERFIELD, IL — A new principal at Deerfield High School for next school year will be named at the March 18 Township High School District 113 Board of Education meeting. In December, the district announced Kathryn Anderson, the current principal, has been appointed chief human resources officer/deputy superintendent for the district, effective July 1.

"I would like to thank everyone who volunteered to take part in this extensive process," Superintendent Dr. Chala Holland said at the March 5 board meeting. "I've read every line of feedback submitted and appreciate the thoughtfulness of all the participants in the process."

At its Dec. 17. 2024 meeting, the school board voted to approve a three-year contract appointing Anderson to her new roles. Current Chief Human Resources Officer Tom Krieger is retiring at the end of this school year. Anderson has served as the principal of Deerfield High since 2016.

"Kathy brings an impressive track record of success in fostering inclusive school communities, enhancing instructional quality, and advancing organizational excellence," Holland said.

In 2023, Anderson was named Principal of the Year in Lake County as part of the statewide Illinois Principals Association.

"As deputy superintendent, Kathy will bring continuity across the District, as we embark on many initiatives grounded in our focus on access, belonging, and achievement as key pillars of our vision for fostering an inclusive educational experience for our students," Holland said.

The district released its timeline for hiring a new principal:

  • Jan. 21: Stakeholder volunteer form, feedback survey and job posting all close
  • Jan. 23: Applicant screening (Screening occurs as applications are submitted)
  • Jan. 27: Stakeholder volunteer participation confirmed by end of day
  • Jan. 29-31: Screening interviews
  • Feb. 12: First round interviews with Cabinet
  • Feb. 24: Informational session and stakeholder orientation from 3:30-6:00 p.m. at Administrative Building
  • Feb. 27: Finalist interviews with stakeholder groups
