Outdoor Water Ban Issued in Deerfield

A problem at the Highland Park water treatment plant means no outdoor water use until further notice.

The following is from the Village of Deerfield:

Please be advised the Village of Deerfield has issued a Temporary Outdoor Water Use Ban until further notice.

The Village of Deerfield was notified by the City of Highland Park, the Village’s water provider, that the City of Highland Park has encountered unexpected issues with the City of Highland Park Water Treatment Plant upgrade project. This issue has reduced their ability to supply the Village of Deerfield, and its other customers, with enough water to allow outdoor water use, despite favorable weather.

This morning, the City of Highland Park reported intermittent problems with clogged strainers limiting the City’s ability to deliver water. The strainers protect the plant’s membranes from damage caused by sand and other large solids coming from Lake Michigan.

The City of Highland Park has activated their mutual aid connections with the City of Lake Forest and the Village of Northbrook to deliver emergency water. The mutual aid connection can supply an ample volume of water to sustain normal indoor water usage. As soon as the Highland Park Water Treatment Plant strainers are unclogged, the ban will be lifted.
