Public Gets Its Say on Village Tax Hike

Village Board holds public hearing Monday on proposed tax levy increase.

With Deerfield poised to increase the real estate tax levy 3 percent for payments due next year, the Village Board of Trustee will hold a public hearing on the issue during its regularly scheduled meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Village Hall.

Deerfield’s proposed 2014 budget in excess of $40 million includes an increase in the real estate tax levy which, if passed, will hike the amount due from the owner of a $500,000 home $20 over what was paid last year, according to Finance Director Eric Burk.

The reason the amount is $20 rather than more is because the Village also plans to abate the portion which is set aside for debt service other than the amount required for the water reclamation facility, according to Andrew Lichterman, the assistant to the Village manager.

After a public hearing on the budget itself Nov. 4, the Board is scheduled to vote whether to adopt the proposed 2014 spending and revenue plan.

Also on the agenda Monday are reports on the issuance of special use permits for the North Suburban Evangelical Free Church, Hadassah House and Beauty Systems Group, all located on Lake Cook Road.
