Village Of Deerfield Hosts 'Valentines For Veterans'

"We want to create and distribute as many Valentines as we can for our Veterans to show them one more way we appreciate everything they do."

The Village of Deerfield invites everyone to participate in our Valentines for Veterans project as part of our 7th year of the Give Where You Live-Deerfield campaign, spearheaded by Deerfield Mayor Harriet Rosenthal to help link volunteers to local community service opportunities.

We want to create and distribute as many Valentines as we can for our Veterans to show them one more way we appreciate everything they did and do. The cards will be given to the Midwest Veteran’s Closet (MVC), a rapid response organization where it is Veteran’s Day everyday. MVC has taken the lead in making sure hospitalized and at-risk Veterans (women and men, active military, and troops abroad) know they are loved and not forgotten. Here, they are welcomed with a warm smile and a listening ear, served with care, and given an honest compliment along with the resources they require: all of which has proven to turn lives around.

We are asking everyone - young and old, school teachers, social group leaders, civic organizations, religious institutions, families and friends - to make a Valentines card for our Vets. Let them know that they are special, we’re grateful for their service, and that we owe them our freedom. Your small act of kindness will bring smiles and boost morale more than you can imagine.

Cards of any size or shape may be dropped off at the Deerfield Police Department, 850 Waukegan Road, Deerfield, IL 60015, anytime between now and February 11, 2021.
