David Bein Named Assistant Superintendent For Business

Bein comes to District 58 with more than 30 years business management experience in both the education and private sectors.

Downers Grove Grade School District 58 is pleased to announce that David Bein will join its administrative team as the assistant superintendent for business, beginning July 1. The Board of Education approved Bein’s appointment during their regular March 14 meeting.

“I am very happy to welcome David Bein to District 58,” said Superintendent Dr. Kari Cremascoli. “Interview teams were most impressed by Mr. Bein’s focus on meeting the needs of students, his financial acumen, his substantial knowledge and experience in support of his candidacy, and his comfortable and collaborative style. Mr. Bein was described by references as ‘outstanding in his field,’ and I am confident that he will prove to be a wonderful addition to our District.”

Bein comes to District 58 with more than 30 years business management experience in both the education and private sectors. For the past nine years, he has served as the assistant superintendent of business services and the chief school business official for East Maine School District 63. Prior to that appointment, Bein served more than 25 years in the private sector as a senior finance manager, business manager, strategic analysis manager, consultant and engineer. Bein holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and a Master of Business Administration, all from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Education Leadership at Concordia University.

“District 58 is a high performing school district with a dedicated, talented staff and an engaged community,” Bein said. “I am excited to join the District 58 team to help continue the excellent instruction for students while providing financial stability, high quality facilities and fiscally responsible use of taxpayer resources.”

As the District 58 assistant superintendent for business, Bein will lead and direct all school operations related to budgeting and financial planning; buildings and grounds; construction planning; purchasing and supply management; pupil transportation; cafeteria operations; and accounting and reporting and related areas.

Bein will replace Dr. James Popernik, who will retire in June. Dr. Popernik has served as District 58’s assistant superintendent for business since 2007.
