District 58 School Board Honored With Governance Award
The district's board was one of just 46 in Illinois to receive the distinction.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove Grade School District 58's school board was one of just 46 board in Illinois to receive the Illinois Association of School Board's (IASB) 2024 School Board Governance Recognition. This year's award is the second in a row for District 58's board of education.
“I am proud of District 58’s Board of Education for earning the School Board Governance Recognition two consecutive times,” District 58 Superintendent Dr. Kevin Russell said in a statement.
Dr. Russell added, “District 58’s School Board comprises seven community members who are deeply committed to District 58’s mission, and who work tirelessly and collaboratively to carry out our school district’s work.”

The award applies to a two-year period in which boards of education are evaluated by priorities that include:
- Community connection
- Superintendent relations
- Authority delegation
- Performance monitoring
- Personal responsibility
"We are honored to accept this award and thank the IASB for their recognition. As board members, we hold each other to high standards and strive to continually improve our leadership skills and broaden our knowledge," said Board President Darren Hughes. "We will continue to work collaboratively to provide an excellent educational experience for all students in a fiscally-responsible manner.
