Downers Grove Gymnasts Head To State Finals After Sectional Win

Gymnasts from Downers Grove's Girls Co-Op team dominated several events to put the team in first place Tuesday.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The Downers Grove High School girls' Co-gymnastics team soared to victory at Tuesday's IHSA Sectional competition, securing their spot in the state meet competition.

The team emerged with a total score of 144.15 points, edging out Geneva, Frankfort, and Oswego. The team scores are as follows:

  1. Downers Grove Co-op: 144.15
  2. Geneva: 142.725
  3. Frankfort: 141.6
  4. Oswego: 141.325
  5. Tinley Park: 136.2
  6. La Grange: 134.075

Individual gymnasts from Downers Grove excelled in a number of events during the sectional competition, which was held at Hinsdale South High School. Genevieve Herion, who attends Downers Grove South High School, won the uneven parallel bars event with a score of 9.45.

Herion placed fifth on the vault, second on the balance beam, and fourth with her floor exercise routine, putting her ahead of her competitors with an overall score of 37.15.

Kathryn Snouffer of Downers South also gave standout performances in her events. Stouffer won the balance beam event with a score of 9.25 and placed fourth on the uneven parallel bars, putting her in fourth place overall with a score of 35.875.

The IHSA Girls Gymnastics State Finals will be held on Feb. 17 and Feb. 18 at Palatine High School.
