Downers Grove Police Catch Four Businesses Selling Minor Alcohol in One Day

Three restaurants and a liquor store were all caught on the same day selling alcohol to an 18-year-old acting for the Downers Grove Police Department.

In one January day’s testing of local establishments, the Downers Grove Police Department busted four Village businesses when they sold alcohol to an 18-year-old acting as a Department agent, the Chicago Tribune reports.

According to the paper, employers of DuPage Inn, Mrs. T's Pizza, Lao Sze Chuan and Prestige Liquor Mart all sold the teenager alcohol, with the former two serving despite his showing a clearly marked “Under 21” license, and the latter two never asking for ID at all. The tests are an annual mandate of the Department, the paper said.

“It makes us wonder if on the one day someone comes in for a controlled buy, you fail,” the paper quoted commissioner James Krusenoski admonishing. “It makes us wonder what happens on the other 364 days."

"Spring break is coming up," chairman Alice Strelau added, as quoted by the paper. "Our kids are coming back when bars are sometimes lenient."

The paper said that the businesses, while pledging to modify policies and give employees additional training, were all found guilty of the violation and face disciplinary action from Mayor Tully.
