Downers North Boys Cross Country Celebrates 2nd State Championship

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — For the second consecutive year, the Downers Grove North Boys Cross Country team won the Class 3A IHSA State Championship.

The team rose above Plainfield North High School with a score of 83 to Plainfield North's 154. Individual runners from Downers Grove North also earned accolades among the top 10 race times, with Grant Schroder, Sr., in second place, clocking a time of 14:11.80, and Philip Cupial, Jr., with a time of 14:12.70, coming in at fourth place.

“We are so proud of the team and coaches for this amazing accomplishment,” Downers Grove North Principal Dr. Courtney DeMent said in a statement.

DeMent added, “Our community knows how hard our students run every day, and their perseverance has paid off!”

A victory cruise was set for 7 p.m. Monday at McCollum Park.
