Downers South Alum Tori Franklin Makes Triple Jump History: Report
On Monday, Tori Franklin, who graduated from Downers South in 2011, became the first U.S. woman to earn a triple jump world medal.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A Downers Grove South (DGS) alum recently made history by becoming the first woman from the United States to earn a triple jump world medal, according to NBC. Tori Franklin won a bronze medal at the 2022 World Track and Field Championships Monday, with a jump of 14.72 meters.
Born in Evanston in 1992, Franklin graduated from DGS in 2011. During her career at DGS, Franklin won the Illinois High School State Championships once and came in second on two occasions, her website states.
She later went on to pursue a degree in interdisciplinary studies at Michigan State University. There she continued to shatter records for indoor and outdoor triple jumps both at the university level and among the Big Ten Conference.

In 2020, Franklin competed in the triple jump during the Olympics in Tokyo. Throughout her career, she has earned several medals, including nearly a dozen USA Track & Field medals.
