Fire Damages Good Shepherd Lutheran Church In Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A fire damaged Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Downers Grove early Monday.

Fire crews were called to the church at 525 63rd St. around 6:15 a.m. and arrived to find "a large amount of fire coming from the roof," a news release said. Firefighters went into the church and were able to put out the blaze with no injuries reported.

Traffic was halted in both directions on 63rd Street between Washington and Fairview Monday morning due to the fire. As of 9:30 a.m., westbound traffic had resumed, but eastbound traffic was still closed.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
