Man Allegedly Forcefully Shut Door On Officer's Face: Officials
A Westmont man is accused of beating a police officer and attempting to take his taser after the officer attempted a traffic stop on him.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Charges have been filed against a Westmont man who is accused of beating a police officer and attempting to take his taser.
Shannon Moore, 22, was charged with three felonies: One count of attempting to disarm a peace officer, one count of aggravated battery to a peace officer and one count of resisting a peace officer, the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office said.
He was also charged with "several misdemeanor offenses," including fleeing and eluding, the Attorney's Office said.

On Wednesday at around 10:40 p.m., a Westmont police officer on patrol attempted to initiate a stop on a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed as it turned onto Cass Avenue, officials said. The vehicle slowed down but did not stop, and eventually turned onto 61st Street.
The officer terminated his pursuit of the vehicle after obtaining its registration information, and a short time later he went to the address where the vehicle was registered and found it parked in a nearby driveway, officials said.

When the officer approached the vehicle, he observed a man — later identified as Moore — allegedly exit the driver side door, officials said. Moore allegedly refused the officer's order to return to and remain in the vehicle, and instead ran toward the front door of the residence.
"It is alleged that near the front door of the residence, both the officer and Moore fell to the ground at which time Moore began hitting the officer about his face, head and upper torso and began forcefully shutting the door on the officer's head," the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office said. "At this time, the officer was able to activate his taser, but the defendant allegedly continued to resist and grabbed onto the taser and attempted to take it from the officer."
The officer was able to retain control of the taser, but Moore allegedly "continued to strike" the officer. Moore allegedly eventually went into the residence and refused to comply with the officer's attempts to get him to exit the home, officials said.
Officers returned to the residence early on Oct. 7 with a search warrant, at which time Moore was taken into custody, officials said.
Moore appeared in Bond Court Thursday afternoon, where Judge Jeffrey Mackay set bond at $50,000 with 10 percent to apply, officials said. The State had asked for a bond of $750,000 with 10 percent to apply.
"I am very proud of my staff and the officers involved in this case for their outstanding work in apprehending the suspect," Westmont Chief of Police Jim Gunther said. "Because of their efforts, we were able to take Mr. Moore into custody in a very short period of time."
Moore’s next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 1, when he will be arraigned in front of Judge Mike Reidy.
