Man Tried to Lure 13-Year-Old Boy into Car in Downers Grove: Police

The boy was walking to school near Ogden and Saratoga avenues around 8:05 a.m. when a Hispanic man offered him a ride to school, police said.

Downers Grove police are searching for a man who allegedly tried to lure a 13-year-old boy to his vehicle while he was walking to school Monday morning.

The boy was walking near the Westbrook West Condos—located at Ogden and Saratoga avenues—around 8:05 a.m. when police said he was approached by a vehicle driven by a lone man.

The man rolled down his window and offered the boy a ride to school, prompting the boy to flee the area on foot, police said.

Police searched the surrounding area but were unable to locate the described man or vehicle, according to Sgt. Harry Andler, spokesman for the Downers Grove Police Department.

The man is described as Hispanic, approximately 50 years of age with a gray mustache, dark spots under his eyes and was last seen wearing a tan jacket, police said. The vehicle he was driving may possibly be a light blue, four-door Buick or Mercury with damage on the driver's side trunk.

Police have increased patrols in the area and at all local schools. Parents are asked to remind children to be aware of strangers and report any concerns immediately to police.
