Bookology: it’s the science of good books, making Downers Grove Public Library staff experts in the field, or bookologists.

The library is highlighting one bookologist at a time. New month, new bookologist. This March, meet Melody.

The first book Melody remembers reading is "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak.

"It gives me a kick to know that it was enjoyed by my kids (lifelong readers) and is now enjoyed by my granddaughter (a lifelong reader in the making)."

For as long as Melody has enjoyed reading, she has also enjoyed drawing.

"I used to draw the characters from my Disney coloring books rather than coloring in them."

Some of Bookologist Melody's recommendations include "Jurassic Park" by Michael Crichton, "Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination" by Neal Gabler and "Genuine Lies" by Nora Roberts.

A display in the first floor lobby also includes her favorite picture books for kids, including "Bats at the Library" by Brian Lies and "Skippyjon Jones" by Judith Byron Schachner. Come take a look.
