New Assistant Principal Appointed For Herrick Middle School

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Elizabeth McDonald is set to join Downers Grove Grade School District 58 as the new assistant principal for Herrick Middle School. Board members unanimously approved McDonald's appointment during their July 8 meeting.

McDonald has a bachelor's degree in elementary education from University of Illinois and a master’s degree in education, with a focus on educational administration from Concordia University.

She began her career at Bryan Middle School, where she held a number of roles over 17 years, including math and science coordinator, science department chair and instructional coach. Before joining District 58, McDonald served as an assistant principal for schools in Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205.

“We are very excited to welcome Ms. McDonald to the Herrick Middle School team,” Superintendent Dr. Kevin Russell shared in a statement.

“District 58 received a significant amount of interest in this position from many highly qualified candidates. The Herrick assistant principal interview team spoke very highly of Ms. McDonald, citing her variety of educational experiences, her child-centered approach and her calm, professional demeanor. We look forward to working with her!”

McDonald said she is "honored" to have been selected as Herrick's assistant principal.

She said, “I look forward to getting to know Herrick’s students and staff, as well as working collaboratively with them and parents to create a positive environment in which our students can thrive.”

McDonald starts as assistant principal on July 24.
