Rain Barrels Available To Help Conserve Water In Downers Grove
Once again, the village has teamed up with the Conservation Foundation to sell rain barrels to residents.
DOWNERS GROVE, IL — March kicked off with stormy weather, so it's fitting that the Village of Downers Grove has launched its 2024 rain barrel sales.
The rain barrels can help conserve water that can be tapped from a spout to repurpose for watering flowers, house cleaning and other uses. Made from repurposed plastic, the barrels can also help reduce residents' water bills, according to a post on the village's website.
The barrels are equipped with a spigot, a lid that screws on, an overflow spout with threading for a garden hose and a bug screen. Available sizes and prices are as follows:

- 50-gallon rain barrel: $64.50
- Wide overflow 50-gallon rain barrel: $86.50
- 55-gallon rain barrel: starts at $69.50
- Wide overflow 55-gallon rain barrel: starts at $91.50
Customers who choose home delivery will be charged an additional fee. Compost containers and barrel totes are also available.
Mail-in orders must include check payment and be received by May 31. Payment should be sent to Upcycle Products, PO Box 315, Channahon, IL 60410.

The deadline to place an online order for a rain barrel is June 2.
Rain barrels will be available for pickup June 6 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Downers Grove Public Works Facility, 5101 Walnut Ave. The home delivery option takes five to 10 business days to be fulfilled.
