DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Aug. 7 to celebrate the end of construction to make Constitution Park a more inclusive playground. The event will feature giveaways, kid-friendly activities and remarks from local officials.

“The uniquely designed playground featuring wheelchair-accessible ramps, a synthetic turf playground surface, sensory experiences and more enhances inclusive play at Constitution Park,” Downers Grove Park District Director of Planning and Construction Paul Fyle said in a statement.

The event will be attended by State Senator Suzy Glowiak Hilton, along with reps from SEASPAR and Downers Grove Public Library.

The project was funded in part by a $425,000 Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The park district matched this grant at 50 percent, with construction beginning in March 2024.

Constitution Park's old equipment was donated to Kids Around the World, a nonprofit organization that helps create playgrounds for kids in other countries.
