Storms Are Headed Toward Downers Grove

Storms expected to start in Downers Grove by 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service issued a local weather alert at 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Doppler radar is showing a strong line of thunderstorms from Antioch to 11 miles southwest of DeKalb, and it's headed this way at about 30 miles per hour. 

Thunder and light rain began to move into the Downers Grove area around 1 p.m. Occasional thunderstorms are expected until at least 5:15 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The storm contains half-inch hail, winds greater than 40 miles per hour, continuous cloud-to-ground lightning and heavy downpours. All of DuPage County is in the path of the storm.

From the National Weather Service:

"Gusty winds may cause small objects … to blow around. Stay away from high objects such as trees. Heavy rainfall could lead to standing water on roadways and poor visibility. Seek shelter in a sturdy structure until these storms have passed."
