Trio To Be Inducted Into Athletic Hall Of Fame At Downers Grove North

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove North (DGN) will induct two former students and a coach into its hall of fame on Jan. 7. Paralympian Kendall Gretsch, NFL player David Edwards, Jr., and beloved coach Tom Redig are set to be honored in an induction ceremony that will be held before the Varsity boys' basketball game.

David Edwards, Jr., who graduated in 2015, was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in 2019 and played with the team during their 2022 Superbowl championship victory. During his time at DGN, he was an all-conference quarterback, an all-area basketball player and a three-star recruit for ESPN, 247Sport, Scout and Rival.

In college, Edwards was recognized by the Academic All-Big Ten in 2016, 2017 and 2018, in addition to several other achievements in football.

Kendall Gretsch graduated in 2010 from DGN and went on to become a World Triathlon Para Cup and Series medalist multiple times, along with being a five-time USA Paratriathlon National Champion. In 2019, Gretsch earned a silver medal in the ITU Paratriathlon World Championships.

Gretsch earned two gold medals at the Pyeongchang Winter Paralympic Games in 2018, in addition to winning gold, silver and bronze medals in multiple sports during the 2022 Winter Paralympic Games in Beijing.

Coach Tom Redig was recognized as a three-time IHSA State medalist during his time at Forest View High School. Redig went on to coach National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) All-American swimmers in relay and individual races. During his tenure, Redig coached 10 athletes to earn IHSA state medals.
