Two Leap Day Babies Born at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital

The probability of being born on Leap Day is one in 1,461.

Downers Grove, IL - Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital welcomed two newborn Leap Day babies, also known as “leaplings,” on Feb. 29, 2016.

Madison Berkshire, daughter of Emily and Brad Berkshire of Lombard, was born at 8:33 a.m. She weighed 8 pounds and 13 ounces and is 20.5 inches long. (Photo 1)

Alida Anne Smith, daughter of Rebecca and Michael Smith of Lisle, was born at 1:54 p.m. She weighed 6 pounds and 12 ounces and is 20.5 inches long. (Photo 2)

The babies received “Advocate Leap Day Baby” bibs that feature the Advocate Children’s Hospital “Get-Well Pal” green frog, according to the hospital.

More than 1,850 babies are born each year at Good Samaritan Hospital. The probability of being born on Leap Day is one in 1,461. It’s estimated that less than one percent of the world’s population have a Feb. 29 birthday.
