Wallet Stolen From Customer At Wendy's In Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A wallet was stolen from a customer at a Wendy's in Downers Grove.

Police were called to the restaurant at 1420 75th St. just before 1 p.m. on Dec. 18 for a report of a theft. Per a police report, the caller told officers they had "witnessed an interaction" between two people in the Wendy's parking lot "over a backpack" in which a man fled on foot.

Police say the caller had followed the man who fled "at a safe distance" in their car before alerting police that the man was in the 7400 block of Woodward Avenue in Woodridge. Officers say they found the man inside an apartment, "crouched down just inside the door."

The person whose wallet was stolen told police he had left it on the table when the man grabbed it. He told officers he and another person followed the man into the parking lot, confronted him and were able to get the wallet back.

They tried to detain the man before he fled, but were not successful. Police took the suspect to DuPage County Jail, where he was granted pre-trial release.
