Yard Waste Collection Resumes April 1 In Downers Grove

Residents can leave yard waste for curbside collection April 1 through mid-December.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Yard waste collection is set to resume April in Downers Grove, giving residents an opportunity to get rid of the debris they collect once they start spring cleaning. The service will be available until mid-December.

The following types of yard waste are eligible for collection:

  • Grass clippings
  • Garden trimmings
  • Leaves
  • Small branches
  • Twigs

The above items can be placed in a 33-gallon biodegradable bag, a 33-gallon unlined refuse can or a yard waste cart rented from Republic Services. Cans and carts must be legibly labeled "yard waste." Bags and bundles must be labeled with a refuse sticker and are not to exceed 50 pounds.

Tree branches and brush are to be no more than four feet long five feet in diameter and must be bundled with uncoated string or jute twine, per the Village of Downers Grove website. Bundles can be no larger than two feet in diameter and four feet in length, and must weigh no more than 50 pounds.
