Elgin Sex Offender Sentenced In 2018 Wing Park Pool Incident
The man pleaded guilty Friday to aggravated criminal sexual abuse, over a year after he exposed his genitals to minors, prosecutors said.

ELGIN, IL β A registered child sex offender from Elgin will spend time behind bars after pleading guilty to the felony offense of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, stemming from accusations he exposed his genitals to children at Wing Park Pool in Elgin last summer, according to a release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office. On Friday, 28-year-old Jose T. Barboza-Lopez, of the 700 block of Walnut Avenue, agreed to a five-year prison sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) in exchange for the guilty plea to the felony offense, the state's attorney's office said.
According to the release, Barboza-Lopez exposed himself to several victims and also touched another with his genitals, all under the age of 18, while at the Elgin pool on July 2, 2018, Kane County prosecutors said in court.
The state's attorney's office said Barboza-Lopez wasn't allowed by law to be in the pool park with any person under 18 years old due to a 2016 sex offense conviction in Cook County. He also was on probation for a 2016 burglary offense in Kane County, the release said.
