• Elgin Police Refute ICE Claims Of Rioters Throwing Rocks, Bottles (patch.com) — Elgin police are pushing back on federal claims that local “rioters” hurled rocks and bottles at ICE agents during an enforcement action on Maple Lane, saying their review of calls, witnesses, and body-camera video doesn’t support that description. Officers confirmed ICE used chemical irritants that led to on-scene treatment for seven people and are asking residents to share any additional reports or video.

• Boys basketball: Timothy Christian rolls past St. Edward in conference opener (dailyherald.com) — St. Edward’s boys basketball team fell 54-32 to Timothy Christian in their Chicagoland Christian League opener played in Elgin, where Timothy senior Marc Gamble notched his 1,000th career point. Despite a stronger second half, the Green Wave struggled with rebounding and containing Gamble, and players and coaches say they’re still working to fully gel this season.

• Brethren Volunteer Service announces new project sites, new BVS Early Enrollment Program (brethren.org) — A local nonprofit, Food for Greater Elgin, has been chosen as a new Brethren Volunteer Service project site, opening the door for more volunteers to support its busy guest-choice food pantry. The announcement also introduces an early enrollment option for BVS applicants interested in placements like Elgin or an affiliated food justice project in Northern Ireland starting in 2026.
