2 Elmhurst Firms Hit With Vehicle Burglaries: Cops

In another case, a local business was the victim of impersonation, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving impersonation, truck burglaries, fraud, retail theft, trespassing, dining and dashing, and a threat. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Truck burglaries

  • Someone burglarized 13 truck tractors and stole electronic control modules about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at Goldmax Carrier, 179 W. Spangler Ave. Around the same time, five tractors were burglarized, with electronic control modules removed at TransChicago Truck Group, 776 N. York St. The businesses are close to each other. An investigation is pending.

Impersonation

  • World Wholesale, 845 N. Larch Ave., told police Tuesday that someone is impersonating the business and sending fake invoices. No money has been transferred to the scammer. An investigation is pending.

Fraud

  • Ed Napleton Kia, 727 W. Grand Ave., told police Wednesday that a customer used fraudulent documentation to lease a car in January and has since failed to make any payments. Police found out the car had been used in an incident that involved the driver fleeing officers. It ended with the driver abandoning the car, which Forest Park police towed.

Retail theft

  • Lenisha Kearney, 26, of Chicago, was arrested about 3 p.m. Tuesday on charges of burglary, retail theft, obstructing police and driving with a suspended license. Police said the crime occurred at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. She was taken to the DuPage County Jail. In the same incident, a 28-year-old Chicago man was arrested on a retail theft charge. He was sent to the county jail because of a warrant.

Trespassing

  • A 22-year-old Addison woman and a 22-year-old Elmhurst man were cited about 11 p.m. Tuesday on trespassing charges. Police said they were trespassing on the top deck of the city's parking garage at 145 N. Addison Ave. The public is barred from the top deck. The suspects were released.
  • Police responded to a loitering complaint about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jewel, 944 S. York St. A person was disrupting customers. Upon request, police served the person with a no-trespass notice.
  • A person was drunk and yelling at staff about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at Extended Stay America hotel, 550 W. Grand Ave. The person was served with a no-trespass notice.

Dine and dash

  • A person left without paying for a meal about 7 p.m. Monday at Guac N Tacos, 116 S. York St. An investigation is pending.

Threat

  • About 5 p.m. Monday, officers met with staff at Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave., about a threat report.
