5 Elmhurst Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

ELMHURST, IL — If you’re like many of your Elmhurst neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Elmhurst area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  1. Foundation 205 Elmhurst, 162 S. York St., dedicated to raising funds to "support innovation in education and the advancement of excellence in Elmhurst Public Schools."
  2. Elmhurst-Yorkfield Food Pantry, 1036 S. York St., dedicated to "providing food, compassion and hope to our neighbors and children in need."
  3. Elmhurst University Annual Fund, 190 S. Prospect Ave., provides "institutional momentum for our University. It’s where every gift makes a difference, and is the primary way for our alumni, parents and friends to provide unrestricted and immediate support to our institution."
  4. Elmhurst Walk-In Assistance Network, 125 W. Church St., providing "compassionate assistance to people in need in our community."
  5. Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot Foundation, 209 N. York St., serving as a "major contributor in the eradication of hunger and to promote long-term sustainability in DuPage County."
