Bensenville Man Arrested at City Centre for Beating, Choking a Dog Tuesday

Cruelty to an Animal

Matthew Eldred, 19, 100 N. Mason, Bensenville, was arrested and charged with cruelty to an animal, consumption of alcohol by a minor, battery and disorderly conduct after police said he caused a disturbance at City Centre at 8:36 p.m. Tuesday, June 25.

Police found Eldred at York and Schiller. Witnesses told them Eldred was "kicking, punching and choking his dog, picking it up by the neck and throwing it down," according to the police report. Police said Eldred then pushed and shouted threats at another person at City Centre during the incident.

Police said Eldred's dog ran away and could not be located.

A resident of the 100 block of East St. Charles Road, after leaving her home for only 30 minutes on Tuesday, came home to find her back door open and the home disheveled.

Police said the resident left the home at about 12:15 p.m. and returned at about 12:45 p.m. She told police she couldn't remember if she had left the back door unlocked. Police said the victim would provide them with a list of stolen items.
