Bensenville Mayor Frank Soto Resigns, Takes New State-Wide Position

Soto was appointed to a leadership role with the Illinois Worker's Compensation Commission by Gov. Bruce Rauner.

BENSENVILLE, IL — After serving as Bensenville’s village president for almost a decade, Frank Soto announced Wednesday he’s resigning from the position to fill a role appointed to him by Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner.

Soto will next serve in a leadership position with the Illinois Worker’s Compensation Commission.

For eight years — since his appointment in 2009 — Soto worked to repair what Forbes named in 2008 the “fastest-dying small town in America,” according to a release from the village. At the time of his election, Soto faced a town with an $8 million budget deficit and upset homeowners whose properties had been taken over by the expansion of O’Hare International Airport.

Since then, according to the release, new houses and businesses have been built and brought in, Bensenville has a strong credit rating and the village’s latest budget included zero property tax increases. Soto also helped debut the “Fly Quiet” program to improve the quality of life for families living next to the airport.

“I am humbled by the trust that our residents have placed in me and my ability to work with others to improve our community,” Soto said in the release. “While I am excited about this new opportunity to serve the people of Illinois, I will always hold a special place in my heart from my time as village president. Bensenville is strategically positioned for great success in the future and I will continue to do all that I can to support this amazing community and the people in it.”

Since Soto is resigning immediately, village trustees are expected to create a temporary chairman position to lead board meetings until Soto’s term expires in the spring.
