Bouncy House Gone Wrong, Baby Jesus Thief, Drugs: Elmhurst Police Blotter

Take a look at what the Elmhurst police have been up to for the past several days.

The following items were pulled from Elmhurst's police blotter. As a reminder, an arrest doesn't constitute a finding of guilt.

House burglaries

  • Around noon on Dec. 1, a victim living on the 200 block of S. Villa Ave. said that a young woman around 20 years old with dark hair and a dark complexion knocked on their door and distracted them while another person slipped into the house and stole jewelry and prescription medication. They drove off in a black SUV.
  • Sometime between Dec. 1 and Dec. 2, a resident of the 500 block of N. Van Auken told police someone stole his baby Jesus Christmas decoration from his front yard. He said another decoration was damaged, as well.

  • A witness called the police the afternoon of Dec. 1 when they saw a minivan drive up to a Premier Outdoor landscaping trailer and noticed a man jump out of the van’s sliding side door, go up to the parked trailer and steal two Husquarvna leaf blowers.

DUIs

  • Karl Obien, 35, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence while on S. Route 83 Dec. 1.
  • Taurino Maldonado, 50, was stopped for driving in the wrong direction and was found to have been suspended for a DUI and in possession of a revoked license.
  • Voltaire Alanguilan, 30, was stopped for violating a road medium and was arrested for driving drunk.
  • Juliana McDonnell, 21, was pulled over for speeding and improper lane usage and was found to be driving under the influence.
  • Glenda Williams, 27, was stopped for not yielding to an emergency vehicle and was cited with DUI.
  • Edward Pointdujour, 32, received a DUI when he was pulled over for improper lane usage.

  • A father called the Addison Police Department when his 12-year-old daughter said one of her classmates had posted something disturbing on Instagram. Police haven’t specified the contents of the message as of Monday evening. Addison police went to the minor’s home and the victim was eventually transported to the hospital for evaluation.

Ambulance assist

  • Elmhurst police helped out an ambulance crew Dec. 2 when a 4-year-old boy was tossed into a bouncy house by his babysitter and landed wrong. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital and treated there. Police said there was no malintent in the babysitter throwing him into the Moon Jump, since the boy asked to be tossed in.

Battery

  • Mark Peters, 32, was arrested when he allegedly walked into a bar at 122 S. York St. the night of Dec. 1 and hit the working DJ in the face. He is also accused of grabbing another employee while leaving the bar. Peters was taken into custody after police reviewed security tapes of the bar. He was charged with two counts of battery and released on bond.
  • Michael Koski, 50, allegedly punched a woman twice in her apartment after sleeping there. The woman said she and Koski were neighbors and that the night before, they had been drinking together. Koski was charged with battery and released on bond.

Identity theft

  • An Elmhurst resident said she was going through bank records Dec. 1 and noticed there had been withdrawals from her account that she hadn’t authorized. The check numbers corresponded with legitimate checks she used for business purposes, but they were made out to a man she didn’t know. Her bank account was frozen.

Fake ID

  • Melissa Lundin, 20, and Kerry Bernardien-Vandril, 20, were arrested the night of Dec. 1. for drinking underage and having fake IDs. After they noticed police in line for a bar and left, officers became suspicious and stopped the pair to check their IDs.

Theft

  • An Elmhurst resident reported Dec. 1 that she had been contacted by someone who said she’d been chosen to receive a $9,000 from the federal government. She was instructed to submit $300 in iTunes gift cards to cover the taxes, and was contacted again saying she was eligible for another $20,000. She submitted a total of $1,199 in gift cards and said she hasn’t received her grant money.

Drugs

  • Vincent Kabat and Timothy Thompson, both 19, were stopped while driving and cited for having marijuana and drug paraphernalia with them. Kabat was also cited with improper lane usage.
  • Robert Halloran, 20, was pulled over for speeding and ultimately cited for having marijuana, the speed violation and not having insurance for his car.
  • Adam Crocetti, 31, was cited when a witness at Whole Foods saw him put a small child in the back of a work van and drive away. A search of the van revealed marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
  • Lloyd Weaver, Jr., 61, was stopped while driving because police noticed he had an expired registration sticker. Upon stopping him, they found the sticker was stolen and that he had a glass crack pipe on him.
  • Alondra Campos, 18, was stopped for not having her headlights on and was cited for having marijuana in her car. She was also ticketed for not having a valid driver’s license.

Retail theft

  • Jennifer Menendez, 34, was arrested Dec. 3 for stealing more than $300 of Kohl’s merchandise. The store’s loss prevention team was following Menendez and said she was armed with a gun. After she was arrested, she was found to be wanted by the Illinois State Police and was charged with retail theft, aggravated assault, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and driving without a suspended license. She was transported to DuPage County Jail.

Traffic violations

  • Richard Morris, 79, was originally stopped and arrested for not wearing a seatbelt. When police took him into custody, they found the Illinois State Police had issued a warrant for his arrest.
  • Ashley Sopoci, 23, was arrested for driving with a suspended license after being stopped at North and Willow.
