Burglar Surprised by Elmhurst Homeowner Monday Morning

The burglar ran when the homeowner found him standing inside the home.

Elmhurst, IL - A burglar who broke into an Elmhurst home Monday morning took off running when he was confronted by the homeowner.

The burglary took place around 9:20 a.m. May 16 in the 700 block of S. Stratford Avenue, according Elmhurst police.

Police believe the burglar broke into the home through the back door. The homeowner heard a noise and found the burglar standing in the home.

After running from the home, the burglar got into a car and drove south on Stratford Avenue toward Butterfield Road, the homeowner told police.

The burglar is described as an African-American man in his late 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 175 pounds, police reported. He was wearing a Chicago Bulls baseball cap, a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

The getaway car is described as a silver Nissan passenger car with tinted windows and a lowered suspension.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Elmhurst police at 630-530-3050.

The city reminds Elmhurst residents to call 911 if they see suspicious activity in their neighborhood.
