Car Burglaries At Elmhurst Fitness Center

A window was smashed on one car and a purse was stolen, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving car burglaries, a man who barricaded himself, trespassing, a homeless person, retail theft and a domestic disturbance. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Car burglaries

  • Someone smashed a car window and stole a purse inside between 7:57 p.m. and 8:10 p.m. Monday at LA Fitness, 620 N. York St. Responding officers found two other burglarized cars. An investigation is pending.

Barricaded himself

  • A man barricaded himself in his room and refused to leave about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Extended Stay America hotel, 550 W. Grand Ave. Officers escorted him off the property and served him with a no-trespass notice.

Homeless

  • About 9 a.m. Tuesday, a person in the 200 block of West Butterfield Road was homeless and looking for resources because of the bad weather. The person was taken to the DuPage County Crisis Center.

  • A drunk 43-year-old Bensenville man was issued a no-trespass notice about 10 p.m. Monday at Burger King, 176 E. Butterfield Road. Police said the man had alcohol and caused a disturbance.
  • A 37-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 10 block of Willow Tree Court was arrested about 1 p.m. Monday on a criminal trespassing charge. Police said he was at Old Havana Cigar Shop, 189 E. Butterfield Road, where he had already been issued a no-trespass notice. He was released.
  • Jewel, 944 S. York St., told police that a drunk man had been at the business all day Tuesday. The store wanted him to leave and served with a no-trespass notice. Officers served him the notice. Given his level of intoxication, the man was taken to the hospital.

Retail theft

  • Three men were arrested about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mariano's, 678 N. York St. A 41-year-old Bensenville man was charged with retail theft and released. Police said he stole liquor from the store. A 34-year-old Bensenville man was charged with possession of open alcohol in public and arrested on DuPage County warrants charging failure to appear in court. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. A 51-year-old man, whose hometown was not given, was charged with possession of alcohol in public and released.

Domestic disturbance

  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 7:30 a.m. Monday at Extended Stay America hotel, 550 W. Grand Ave. A woman said she and her boyfriend argued, but nothing physical occurred. Officers saw no signs of injuries. The woman said she was in pain because of a health condition. She was taken to the hospital.

Threatening messages

  • A resident in the 800 block of South Kent Avenue received threatening text messages from an unknown phone number about 7 p.m. Monday. An investigation is pending.
