Couple Arrested After They Leave Small Children Alone in a Freezing Car: Elmhurst Police
The temperature was 30 degrees Fahrenheit, and the car wasn't running.
After receiving a call about possibly endangered children, Elmhurst police responded to the area of 195 S. Route 83 around 6 p.m. Dec. 30 to find a pair of kids left alone in a car in freezing temperatures.
Lorenzo Lopez, 29, and Maritza Gomez-Ordonez, 26, both Bensenville residents, reportedly left the two small children in a Toyota SUV for almost half an hour while they were shopping.
At the time, the temperature was just 30 degrees Fahrenheit. The car was parked and not running.

Both Lopez and Gomez were found inside the store and taken into custody. They were charged with endangering the life of a child before being released on bond.
The children, both stable, were released to a family member at the scene, police said. They’d been left unsupervised in the freezing temperatures for 27 minutes total.
