ELMHURST, IL – A trio of Elmhurst aldermen wants the city to review the safety of two downtown crosswalks.

The crosswalks are on Addison Avenue between First and Second streets.

The north crosswalk is next to a city parking garage on that block and serves as a primary thoroughfare for pedestrians, connecting them to many businesses, the aldermen said.

"While safety signage is currently in place at these sidewalks, recent serious pedestrian-vehicle accidents and several near accidents necessitate an evaluation and improvement of pedestrian safety measures," the aldermen said in a memo Thursday. "This will help promote the premier walkability we strive for in our Elmhurst City Centre."

The City Council plans to vote Monday on the trio's request for a committee's review of the issue.
