Jazz Combo Camp, June 19-21, is for middle and high school students looking to expand their knowledge of jazz. The camp includes instruction by members of Elmhurst College's renowned music faculty, lunch all three days and a final performance at Fitz's Spare Keys in Elmhurst. All instruments are welcome. Participants will receive conservatory-level instruction for their instrument and chamber ensemble, and also can attend special seminars on such topics as music theory and transposition; preparing for college applications and auditions; and reed-making. This camp is for musicians in grades nine and above, as well as for adults. Classes are taught by members of Elmhurst College’s faculty, known for their depth and breadth of professional experience. Among the full-time and applied faculty are members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Chorus, Lyric Opera and many highly regarded performing ensembles in the area, as well as accomplished composers. The Academy is designed to give participants the personal attention they need to develop their talents. The fee is $350. Pre-formed ensembles receive a $100 discount off the group's registration fee, and music directors sending eight or more students can attend for free. The early application due date is June 1.
