Elmhurst Donation Scam Suspects Caught: Police
They were released from the police station, pending an investigation, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – Suspects involved in a donation scam outside an Elmhurst store were caught Monday, local police said.
About 10 a.m., an officer saw a black Chevrolet Malibu that resembled the ones used by the scam suspects last Friday, police said.
When the officer tried to stop the car, the driver sped away, but the suspects were found later. They were taken to the police station, but later released.

Charges are pending an investigation, police said.
Last Friday afternoon, a trio of suspects sought donations outside Whole Foods, 215 S. Route 83, but only accepted credit card payments, police said.

The suspects sped away after officers arrived.
The car was reported in a theft in Glenview, where the victim's card was overcharged, police said.
Around the suburbs, police have received reports of scammers seeking donations outside stores, accepting only credit card payments. Then victims find fraudulent charges on their cards.
