Elmhurst Firm Scammed By Fake ComEd Rep: Cops
In another case, workers at a local restaurant said a door window broke while they were working.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving scams, a broken window, threats, harassment, a burglary and a no-contact order. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Scams
- Premier Outdoor Environments, 977 S. Route 83, received a phone call Wednesday from someone claiming to be with ComEd. The suspect told the business that it was past due on its electric bill and the power would be shut off. An employee used her personal bank account to pay the scammer the alleged balance.
- A resident in the 500 block of North West Avenue told police Wednesday about receiving a message on her computer stating it had been hacked. She received a phone number for assistance. She spoke with the suspect, who told her that a bitcoin payment would fix the problem.
Broken window

- Employees inside Bacci Pizza, 359 S. Route 83, reported that a window on a door broke about 9 p.m. Wednesday. Officers found no sign of a projectile, but did find evidence that the door had been repaired previously. An investigation is pending a review of video footage.
Threatened
- A resident in the 800 block of South Hillside Avenue told police that his son banged on a window and threatened to throw a brick through it about 8 a.m. Sunday. His son denied threatening his parents and that he only wanted to pick up his belongings.
Harassment

- A woman at Elmhurst University, 190 S. Prospect Ave., told police Monday that she received a harassing text message from someone. An investigation is pending.
Burglary
- A resident in the 200 block of North Elm Avenue told police that someone entered his unlocked car and stole several bottles of wine, pairs of sunglasses and his wallet.
No-contact order
- A resident in the 700 block of South Fairview Avenue told police Tuesday that a suspect violated a no-contact order by sending emails to him through third parties. An investigation is pending.
