Elmhurst Lawmaker Mum On Criticism Of Local Teachers

State Sen. Suzy Glowiak Hilton has received more than $110,000 in campaign contributions from teacher unions.

ELMHURST, IL — The state senator representing Elmhurst has stayed quiet amid state Rep. Deanne Mazzochi's criticism of Elmhurst School District 205.

In recent months, Mazzochi, an Elmhurst resident, has urged the school district to “clean house” and called out a York High School teacher for lessons the lawmaker sees as inappropriate.

Mazzochi has also accused the school district of blocking her efforts to get information on the curriculum of two teachers at York.

Patch also left a message at Glowiak’s Springfield office, but did not receive a reply back.

Glowiak’s silence on the matter comes despite the state senator’s campaign receiving over $110,000 in donations from teacher unions since 2014, according to campaign disclosure reports available on the state Board of Elections' website.

The three biggest contributors are Illinois PAC for Education ($55,500), Illinois Federation of Teachers ($43,000), and the West Suburban Teachers Union Local 571 ($9,450).

The West Suburban Teachers Union represents educators in District 205 through the Elmhurst Teachers Council.

Patch reached out to the West Suburban Teachers Union for comment, but did not receive a response.

Glowiak represents the 24th State Senate District. She is running for reelection in the 23rd District, where she is running against Republican Dennis Reboletti. After the Census, the state redrew district lines.
