Elmhurst Man Stole Mechanical Gazebo: Cops
In another case, a woman was arrested after pushing someone downtown, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving theft, domestic battery, retail theft, disorderly conduct, DUI, harassment and a gift card scam. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Theft
- A 37-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 800 block of North Addison Avenue was arrested Saturday on a theft charge. The incident occurred about noon Jan. 12 at an industrial park business at 889 N. Larch Ave. Police said the man stole a mechanical gazebo and several parts of a second one. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
Domestic battery

- A 54-year-old Lombard woman was arrested about 12:30 a.m. Sunday on a domestic battery charge. Witnesses reported the woman pushed the victim, police said. It was near Stage 119 in downtown Elmhurst. She was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
Burglary
- Larry Riddle, 50, of Chicago, was arrested Thursday on charges of burglary, retail theft, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and obstructing a police officer. The incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. at Jewel, 944 S. York St. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
Disorderly conduct

- A 42-year-old Aurora woman was cited about 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the 300 block of North Addison Avenue on a disorderly conduct charge. Police said she tried to enter a person's home. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.
DUI
- A 72-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 500 block of Cedar Avenue was arrested about 9 p.m. Sunday at York Street and Crescent Avenue on charges of DUI, improper lane usage and disobeying a stop sign. He was taken to the police station and then released.
- A 38-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 4:30 a.m. Saturday at West and North avenues on charges of DUI, marijuana possession and driving a vehicle on a sidewalk. Police said the driver was at the wheel with one wheel parked on the sidewalk. He was released.
- A 47-year-old Evanston woman was arrested shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday at North and Addison avenues on charges of DUI, unlawful marijuana possession by a driver, driving with a suspended license and driving an uninsured car. She was taken to the police station and then released.
- A 42-year-old Schaumburg man was arrested about 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Route 83 and Riverside Road on charges of DUI, improper lane usage and speeding. He was taken to the police station and then released.
Harassment
- A resident in the 500 block of West Fay Avenue told police Thursday that her ex-partner had been sending her and her family members harassing messages.
Theft
- Someone stole or opened packages addressed to five residents about 1:30 a.m. Friday in an apartment complex in the 200 block of North Addison Avenue. A man was seen on surveillance footage gaining access to the building's mailroom and opening packages. An investigation is pending.
- A resident in the 600 block of West Lorraine Avenue told police Saturday that someone stole six suitcase keys, a Christmas tablecloth and one cotton bed cover on Dec. 23. The theft was reported Saturday. An investigation is pending.
- A resident in the 400 block of West Butterfield Road told police Saturday that someone stole $200 in cash and a rose gold ring from her purse, which had been attached to her wheelchair. The theft occurred between Dec. 16 and Jan. 18. An investigation is pending.
Gift card scam
- A suspect posing as a ComEd employee called Willows of Elmhurst condos and informed the business that the utility would shut off the business' power if it did not pay through Walmart and CVS gift cards. An investigation is pending.
Car burglary
- A resident in the 400 block of South Stratford Avenue told police that someone entered her car parked in the attached garage and stole her father's glasses between Jan. 14 and Jan. 17. An investigation is pending.
Trespassing
- A person who was told to stay away from Buffalo Wild Wings, 149 N. York St., returned about 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The person was served a no-trespass notice.
