Elmhurst Mariano's Not Going Anywhere: City
The local grocery store is being sold to another chain, executives announced this week.

ELMHURST, IL – The Mariano's at 678 N. York St. in Elmhurst is expected to continue operating, the city said in a statement Thursday.
This week, Kroger Co. and Albertsons, the parent companies of Mariano's and Jewel grocery stores, respectively, announced their merger in late 2022.
This week, the chains revealed they were selling 35 Jewel and Mariano's stores in the Chicago suburbs to New Hampshire-based C&S Wholesale Grocers, whose stores include Piggly Wiggly.

"As indicated in the announcement, all stores are expected to remain open under the current Mariano's name with all operations to remain unchanged at this time," the city said. "Beyond behind-the-scenes ownership change, there is anticipated to be no noticeable impact on public-facing operations."
The city said it would remain in regular contact with local store management to stay informed and offer support.
The local Mariano's opened in June 2013. It was considered a key to economic development on the city's north side.
